Foods to Avoid Feeding

The following is a list (not complete) of foods that I have found while researching diets that shouldn’t be fed to your dog. Some of these foods can cause illness while others can result in death.

Food Explanation
Alcohol Can cause coma and death
Small bones Can cause obstructions — grinding up chicken bones etc for BARF diet is fine
Chocolate, coffee, tea Contain caffeine, theobromine, or theophylline …? cause diarrhea, vomiting and be toxic to the heart and nervous systems.
Grapes, Raisins ?Unknown toxins that can cause kidney damage
Human vitamins and supplements with iron Can damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs including the liver and kidneys.
Macadamia nuts ?Toxins that affect the digestive and nervous systems
Marijuana Cause vomiting and changes in heart rate
Onions and garlic Both contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia.
